Art About

Jen Walden is a successful visual artist and film director living and working in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Her distinctive style of artwork explores Canadian and Northern life through people, wildlife and topography. Jen works primarily in acrylics, using vibrant colour, rich texture, dynamic line and three-dimensional relief to create a truly sensual experience. Her work is deeply influenced by the natural and human environment, in particular the geography and culture of her immediate surroundings. Her contemporary expressionistic paintings capture the spirit of place, and often use string and rope blended with various acrylic media to create the deep sculptural relief that is her signature.

Jen’s work has been widely acclaimed across northern and western Canada and purchased by collectors around the world. She was selected to represent the Northwest Territories at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where more than 215,000 visitors saw her exhibit, and has twice exhibited at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa (2013/2015). She is currently represented by Visual Effects in Yellowknife and at the Inuit Gallery of Vancouver.

“I love being out on the land and having the chance to see wildlife. Here, we are a pocket of humanity on the edge of wilderness”
